Orte is a characteristic town located in the center of the Tiber Valley, which stands on a high tuff cliff. The latter is surrounded to the north and east by a bend of the river, and to the south by the furrow of its tributary, the Rio Paranza.<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The historic center has a compact structure, with an elliptical plan, modeled on the natural shape of the hill: the peripheral houses are planted directly on the edge of the sheer walls, which appear perforated at different heights by ancient houses dug into the tuff rock. Due to its position, at the exact crossroads between the roads that go up the Tiber valley with the transverse road coming from Viterbo, which crosses the river here and enters Umbria, Orte can be considered an important road and railway hub. In correspondence with the railway yard, the center of Orte Scalo was formed in more recent times. The construction of the pontifical railway, which took place in 1864, started the development of this area and the surrounding Orte area. The church of SS Giuseppe and Marco was built between the 30s and 40s of the twentieth century, in neo-Gothic style, the building is a symbol of the reconstruction of Orte Scalo after the material and moral destruction that struck the city during the Second World War . In 2005, the President of the Republic awarded the city of Orte the bronze medal for civil valor, recognizing the toll of human lives paid by the community following the bombing of 29 August 1943.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Strategic position due to the presence of the A1 Autostrada del Sole motorway toll booth, which makes it a convenient place of transit and hub for passing travelers or tourists from the surrounding area. In the immediate vicinity there are in fact tourist sites of Tuscia, of particular importance, easily reachable from Orte.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
